SHS Mixed Boat Wins Silver at the Head of the Riverfront Regatta on October 6

Simsbury Crew raced well at the season’s first regatta, with the SHS Crew Mixed 8 rowing to a strong second place at The Head of the Riverfront Regatta on Saturday, October 6. Simsbury raced a total of seven crews, three boys and girls boats in addition to the medal winning mixed boat.

Wet and chilly conditions ruled the day as more than 3,000 rowers in 608 boats competed in the various races including nearly 25 high school crews from public and private schools, as well as rowing clubs.  These included Avon, Farmington, Glastonbury, Greenwich Academy, The Gunnery, Middletown, New Canaan, Simsbury, Saugatuck Rowing Club, and the Connecticut Boat Club.

The race course, located on the scenic Connecticut River, ran upstream for 2.25 miles, beginning near the Wethersfield Cove and ending at downtown Hartford’s Mortensen Riverfront Plaza.
