Simsbury has Strong Showing at the Kent and Middletown Regattas

It was a busy weekend of racing for Simsbury crews as they participated in the Kent Invitational and the 7th annual Middletown Novice Regatta.

Competing against several New England rowing powerhouses and changing weather conditions, Simsbury crews had a strong showing at the Kent Invitational on Saturday, May 9. This regatta, which takes place annually at Lake Waramaug in New Preston, CT, dates back to the mid-1980s. In addition to Simsbury, participants included Salisbury School, Brunswick School, the Connecticut Boating Club (CBC), Farmington, East Lyme, Sacred Heart, and Kent School.

The SHS Girls 1st Boat came in third in their race with a time of 5:18.2, behind Kent and CBC. The SHS Girls 2nd, 3rd, and 1st Novice Boats also placed third in their competitions. The SHS Boys 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 1st Novice boats all came in fourth in their respective races.

The second day of racing on Sunday, May 10, at the Middletown Novice Regatta in Middletown, CT. Simsbury raced two novice boats at this double-elimination tournament, which gives novice rowers a minimum of two and maximum of four chances to race on the 700-meter course. Conditions were ideal with calm water, warm temperatures, and wind developing midway through racing.
