AARP Free Tax Assistance Program

AARP will provide free personal tax assistance in Simsbury on Thursdays from February 2nd – April 12th.  The AARP Tax-Aide program is part of a national program and will be offered this year through a partnership between the Simsbury Senior Center and The Simsbury Public Library.  The Tax-Aide program provides trained and certified tax volunteers who work one-on-one with taxpayers to prepare and electronically file both federal and state tax returns free of charge.

The program will be coordinated by the Simsbury Senior Center and hosted by The Simsbury Public Library’s Business Resource Center.  “This is such a great service to provide at the Library and last year we got such positive feedback about the program that we are eager to partner with the Senior Center on this program again”, says Jennifer Keohane, Business Outreach Librarian.  Kathleen Marschall, Senior Center Coordinator agrees, “We hoped moving the actual appointments to the public library would make it more accessible to a wider group of taxpayers and this proved to be true; the AARP Tax-Aide volunteers reported assisting more clients than ever before”.

To participate in this tax assistance program, taxpayers must first book an appointment by calling the Simsbury Senior Center at 860 658-3273. Appointments are available from 10:05 am to 3:00 pm, Thursdays from February 2 - April 12, 2012.  Once an appointment has been booked via the Senior Center, taxpayers will meet the tax volunteers in  Program Room 2 (lower level) at the Simsbury Public Library, 725 Hopmeadow Street, Simsbury, CT 06070.  The AARP Tax-Aide service is free of charge and open to anyone who needs assistance regardless of age or town residence.
