Did you know that even deactivated cell phones can be used to dial 911 during an emergency?
In times of crisis, our power and telephone lines are often down. This leaves many seniors without a way to call for help if there is an emergency. The Department of Social Services helps distribute free emergency cell phones. If you have an old, unused cell phone and charger, please consider donating them. It just may be a lifeline for a senior in need.
We encourage you to remove all personal information from your cell phone before donating it to the program. You can consult your owner's manual, or visit a site on the internet with instructions. One example is www.recellular.com/recycling/data_eraser. In addition, we will double-check that all phones donated to the program have been re-set.
