7 Orphaned Ducks Safe, Thanks to One Woman and Several Simsbury Officers

Deb Luzietti was driving this morning when she observed seven baby ducks crossing Route 10 with their mother.

Sadly, the mother duck was struck by a van and did not survive.

"They hid underneath the carriage of a van that hit the mother duck," Luzietti told us via the Simsbury Patch Facebook page. "The driver blew his horn and they dispersed downhill into thorn bushes and brush."

That's when she called the Simsbury Police Department.

"I called the police department and Officer Mark Rudewicz and several other officers spent over an hour tracking and chasing each of them down," Luzietti said. "They then brought the ducklings to Roaring Brook in Canton where they are being nursed and rehabilitated. I'm proud to have a police department that goes above & beyond the call of duty."
