Today marks the first day of school for Simsbury's 4,554 students and a new Superintendent - Matthew Curtis. We wish everyone good luck as they begin a new and exciting year!
Simsbury is fortunate to have an excellent school system supported by the community. As Deputy First Selectman, I am proud of my record of working collaboratively with our educational partners.
As your next State Representative, I will work hard to continue to bring home education dollars to Simsbury and to carry on Representative Linda Schofield's record of educational advocacy.
Over the last 9 years, I have supported cuts to the Town budget to keep taxes low while supporting our town's quality of life.
In my role as Chair of the Public Safety Subcommittee, I am proud of my work with Selectman Lisa Heavner and Chief Peter Ingvertsen to install a sidewalk on West Street and to add two crosswalks to ensure the safety of our students.
Our kids need more than books and pencils for a quality education. They need elected officials who will look out for them at the State Capitol and to be a strong voice on important issues such as education cost sharing, support for special education programs and reducing unfunded mandates.
I look forward to hearing from you on important education issues. You can contact me at jkhampton@hotmail.com or at 860.803.4072.
