The Pride of Simsbury - An Olympian, a Public Servant & an Author

Celebrating tomorrow's leaders today!

Simsbury is blessed with outstanding young people excelling in a variety of ways.Among the “best and the brightest” are Sara Hendershot, Jefferson Wilkes & Elizabeth Glasband whose recent accomplishments merit special attention.Join me in honoring our very own Olympian Sara Hendershot. Sara and her rowing partner Sarah Zelenka earned a spot on the 2012 U.S. Olympic team when they won the women's pair event during the Olympic rowing trials at Mercer Lake in New Jersey. They finished the trials, with a final race time of 7:27.544.Hendershot graduated from Simsbury High School in 2006 and graduated from Princeton University, where she majored in psychology, in 2010.Sara got her start in rowing on the Farmington River in Simsbury where she rowed for the Simsbury High School Crew Team.We look forward to cheering on Sara at the 2012 Summer Games, beginning in London on July 27th.And “hats off” to Jefferson Wilkes, President of the Simsbury High School Class of 2012.Mr. Wilkes is a dynamic young leader and athlete; he served the town well as a student representative on the board of education and community volunteer.A highlight of his high school career was competing in the 4-by-800 relay race.Jefferson will attend the United States Military Academy at West Point in the fall, where he will study international relations. Jefferson says he discovered his love for people in high school and wants to connect with people around the world. We wish Jefferson well and know that he has a bright future ahead of him.And kudos to Elizabeth Glasband, a 2000 graduate of Simsbury High School. Ms Glasband has authored her first book.Titled "Are You Kidding Me? A Journal of First Dates, Flings and Finding Love," the book offers a detailed account of Glasband's five years of dating in Boston. It depicts everything from first-dates, to falling in love to being dumped on New Year's Eve.The University of Connecticut graduate is currently working on her second book.Look for Glasband on the bestseller list soon.Congratulations to these distinguished young people. Your hometown of Simsbury is very proud of you.
