May 8 Latimer Lane Bike/Walk to School Day -all the details

We are still hopeful for dry weather on Wednesday. Thursday (our rain date) looks worse. The kids don't mind the rain, though!  We'll post here when the decision is made tomorrow afternoon.

Latimer Lane School  Bike/Walk to School Day” Celebrating National Bike to School Day National Bike Month
hosted by Latimer Lane Safe Routes to School
Wed., May 8 (Rain Date May 9)

Latimer Lane Elementary School 33 Mountain View Road, Weatogue

Students, staff, and parent chaperones will meet at twelve neighborhood locations and bike or walk to school.  Last fall, 50% of Latimer Lane students walked or biked to school (in the rain!) for the school’s inaugural Safe Routes to School event in celebration of National Walk to School Day.  For Bike/Walk to School Day, the largest walk and bike groups will be starting at the following locations:
7:30 a.m. Parking Lot on Latimer Lane, adjacent to Farmington Canal Heritage Trail (Meet-to-Walk Group)
7:35 a.m. Adams Rd. at Adams/Red Stone Dr. bike path (Meet-to-Bike Group)  Town officials including First Selectman Mary Glassman will greet students and chaperones, then ride with them to school for Bike/Walk to School Day.
8:00 - 8:15 a.m. – Latimer Lane School  Participants will be greeted at the school by State Representative John Hampton, representatives from Connecticut Safe Routes to School, and members of the Latimer Lane School Safe Routes to School Committee Student participants will receive small prizes and be eligible to win prizes donated by our generous business community and local bike advocacy groups.

Bike/Walk-to-School events are part of a national, Safe Routes-to-School initiative dedicated to improving conditions around schools so that more children can safely walk and bike to school, promoting healthy lifestyles and a healthy earth.  ###
