First Selectman Glassman Encourages Diana Ross to Come to Simsbury

First Selectman Glassman Supports Efforts to Bring a Diana Ross Concert to the Simsbury Performing Arts Center

Simsbury First Selectman Mary Glassman joined with  “Bring Diana Ross to Simsbury” fans in wishing the famous singer a very Happy Birthday on Tuesday, March 26th .

Mrs. Glassman said she is thrilled to join the efforts of University of Hartford student Sean Lyons in his quest to bring Diana Ross to the Simsbury Performing Arts Center at Simsbury Meadows in August.

“I have to agree with Sean that Simsbury is the perfect stop for Diana Ross after her August 9th concert in Boston. The Town of Simsbury is the perfect venue under the stars and nestled along the Farmington River for her to perform.”

To encourage the singer to visit Simsbury, the First Selectman said she would personally offer the singer a special tour of the Town and a home-cooked meal made from locally-grown products.

And if Ms. Ross is available for a concert, she could help celebrate the August 11th birthday of Simsbury’s famous native – Gifford Pinchot – the 1st Chief of the U.S. Forest Service. Glassman said Simsbury is a unique place to visit because of the contributions of Mr. Pinchot as well as former Senator George McLean, another leader of the conservation movement and Martin Luther King Jr. who worked on Simsbury tobacco fields as a young man.

A visit by Ms. Ross would go a long way to help celebrate Simsbury ‘s commitment to conservation and land preservation, Glassman said.
