SNAPz Concert This Friday

The 4th annual SNAPz concert (Simsbury Night About Pops and Jazz) will take place at Simsbury High School on Friday, May 16th at 7 p.m.  A special pre-concert jazz performance will begin at 6:40 p.m.

SNAPz will feature all of SHS’s bands and ensembles. Performing will be the Symphonic Band, Wind Ensemble, Percussion Ensemble, directed by teacher Lisa Abel. The Jazz Ensemble and Jazz Bands, directed by teachers Dr. Ken Fisher and Dr. Carl Knox, will also be performing, and several student-organized smaller ensembles will be featured in the concert.

The music, which traditionally for the last concert of the school year is student-selected, includes a movie-theme section, with songs from Aladdin, The Avengers, and Jurassic Park. Also included will be rock tribute selections, including songs by Coldplay and Van Morrison.  In honor of Memorial Day and those who are or have served our country, the concert will also include a military tribute, with stirring patriotic tunes sure to bring the audience to its feet.

The graduating seniors of each ensemble will be recognized for their contributions to the band program.

This concert is free and open to the public.  The SHS Tri-M Music Honor Society will be collecting food at the door to benefit the Simsbury Food Bank.  All attendees are encouraged to bring a non-perishable food item to support the students’ efforts.
