This Sunday: History Happened on the River

On March 16 at 2 p.m. at the Simsbury Historical Society, all are invited to come hear Dr. Eileen Fielding, Executive Director of the Farmington River Watershed Association when she discusses the River's history and influence on regional historic events. Dr. Fielding will trace the history from early settlement to the rise of the recreation industry. Lecture attendees will learn about the river as a primary food source and travel corridor for Native Americans, understand how agriculture and the industrial revolution affected the river and learn more about native fish and wildlife. 

Dr. Fielding has a doctorate in ecology from UCONN and has taught ecology, conservation biology, and watershed planning at the graduate and undergraduate levels.

The lecture will be held at the Ellsworth Visitor Center on the Simsbury Historical Society grounds. Parking is on 10 Phelps Lane, near Plan B Burger Bar. Admission is $5 per person. For more information, please call the Farmington Valley Visitors Association at 860-676-8878.
