Athletes Get Ready for Special Olympics Regional Games

Athletes are training in preparation for competition in Aquatics and Track & Field at the 2012 Special Olympics Connecticut Northwest Regional Games.

The Special Olympics Connecticut (SOCT) Northwest Region will host our annual Regional Games on May 6 (Aquatics) and May 12 (Track & Field).

Sunday, May 6 – AQUATICS – The Canterbury School, New Milford

Saturday, May 12 – TRACK & FIELD – Danbury High School, Danbury

Athletes are training in preparation for competition in Aquatics and Track & Field at the 2012 Northwest Regional Games.  The games will host 90 swimmers in Aquatics and 334 athletes in Track & Field events.  These athletes are representing 52 towns in Northwest Connecticut, who all come together to participate in the sport, spirit and splendor of Special Olympics.  “This day is about celebration,” comments Nora Mason, Northwest Regional Director for Special Olympics. “We are celebrating the achievements of our athletes in sport and in their lives.”  The community is invited to attend at no charge to cheer on the amazing accomplishments of these Special Olympics athletes. 

Special Olympics Connecticut provides year-round sports training and competitions for more than 13,000 children and adults with intellectual disabilities and Unified Partners (their teammates without disabilities). Through a myriad of initiatives throughout the state and the world, Special Olympics is a movement that’s changing attitudes and changing lives by inspiring inclusion, understanding and respect for people of all abilities, in all aspects of life.
