DEEP Commissioner Dan Esty visited Simsbury last Tuesday to celebrate Simsbury's Bike Friendly initiatives and the 100th anniversary of the CT State Park System. The ride was sponsored by the Farmington Valley Collaborative. Bikers met Esty on Iron Horse Boulevard at the East Coast Greenway tent and rode through Simsbury to Stratton Brook Park where Esty addressed the group of bike advocates including representatives from the Easy Coast Greenway, Simsbury Free Bike and Bike Walk Connecticut. Esty, speaking to the group at the pavilion in the park, emphasized the growing importance of our greenways, our new linear parks, to health, wellness and recreation here in Connecticut. This marks the beginning of an ongoing dialog between bike advocates and the DEEP regarding development of safe well connected networks for biking and walking.
