Letter to the Editor:
I am enthusiastically supporting John Hampton for State Representative for Simsbury. John has been an excellent public servant for the town of Simsbury. During my time on the Simsbury Board of Education, John was always supportive of our education system in Simsbury. John supported the high school renovation project that transformed Simsbury High School into the modern excellent facility that serves as the center of our children’s education and is also one of the focal points of the town for the entire Simsbury community. John has always seen the importance good schools have to a town’s greater well-being. John recognizes that communities are stronger when they are interdependent. He knows that a strong education system translates into better home values. He has been instrumental in making connections between seniors and students which has resulted in better understanding between our younger and older residents. He has also been a strong advocate of tax relief for seniors and those who are suffering under a difficult economy.
At the State House, we need a strong advocate for Simsbury. Too often, other State legislators assume that when education funding is allocated to towns, Simsbury can get by with less because of its affluence. John understands that Simsbury’s contributions to State education through our participation in the Choice program as well as our many student residents attending Magnet Schools require a partnership between State and Town government. He will fight to ensure Simsbury gets its fair share. Similarly, he knows that with student age enrollments declining State wide there are better ways to ensure the legacy of the Sheff settlement than to continue to build more and more new magnet schools.
I am looking forward to John’s advocacy for the town of Simsbury and ask that you join me in voting for him on November 6th.
Sincerely,
Jack Sennott
