McLean Honors Volunteers at Appreciation Dinner: Over 350 volunteers recognized for work and dedication to McLean

SIMSBURY— On Thursday, September 12, McLean honored volunteers who provided extraordinary services in 2013 by holding a Volunteer Appreciation Dinner on campus. Over 50 volunteers attended the event, with a special appearance from Simsbury State Representative John Hampton and a heartfelt speech by McLean President, David Bordonaro.

“We are so proud of our volunteers here at McLean. The time and dedication that our volunteers provide to our residents, and our organization, is invaluable; it’s their commitment that helps distinguish us from other communities.”

Currently, McLean has a total of almost 400 volunteers, including many McLean residents, spanning all programs and services – Hospice, Auxiliary/ Gift Shop, the Wellness Center, Therapeutic Recreation, Assisted Living, Admissions, Development, the Business Office, and Meals on Wheels.

Auxiliary & Gift Shop volunteer Judy Fitzgerald, who has dedicated over 20 years of service to McLean, is proud of the work that she and her team have accomplished. Currently, they have raised over $25,000 for the organization and have established a scholarship fund for employees and children of employees looking to pursue a degree in healthcare.

“I have been volunteering all of my life and enjoy being around people,” said Judy. “It is such a satisfying feeling to give back to the community, especially at McLean, where everyone feels like family to me.”
