What a week! I have to admit, I left Simsbury after the power went out to take care of my kids and parents at my sister’s house in New Hampshire. Many of my neighbors and friends stayed here in town, and were helped by the joint efforts hundreds of volunteers, first responders, and Simsbury’s elected officials.
I arrived home today to find my power turned back on (yeah!) and several day’s worth of mail to sift through. I am writing this letter because I am proud to be a supporter and friend of Mary Glassman, because she is putting people over politics.
Those who know me, know that I am a very politically active person. In my two decades of working on political campaigns, I have never known a candidate to cease campaigning a week before a critical election to focus solely on the needs of his or her town, but that’s just what Mary did.
At the same time, her opponent used his resources to send a negative campaign mailing. Makes me question his reasons for running for public office.
Nationally, Connecticut’s weather disaster was making news. Locally, we have something to celebrate — Mary Glassman. We have a First Selectman who cares.
Let’s vote to keep Mary Glassman as First Selectman for Simsbury.
