Abandoned Vehicle Matches Description of Car Involved in Hit-And-Run that Killed Simsbury Native

Workers at a nearby plant discovered vehicle matching the description of one they had seen on the news.

Denver police towed a vehicle matching the description of the car involved in a hit-and-run accident that killed a Simsbury native on Sunday, according to KDVR.com.

An updated description of the vehicle that struck and killed 32-year-old Laura McDermott, a Simsbury native, was released by the Denver Police Department on Tuesday.

After consulting with a local Toyota dealership, police were able to narrow down the vehicle description based on pieces recovered from the scene of the accident.

"The suspect vehicle is described as a SILVER or GRAY 4 door 1987-1989 Toyota Corolla and is missing a front DRIVER-side turn signal and has significant damage to the front DRIVER-side. The windshield is also likely to have heavy damage from impact with the pedestrian," the statement said.

Police told KDVR that workers at a nearby welding business identified an abandoned vehicle that matched the description of the vehicle they had seen on the news.

The incident remains under investigation and police are seeking witnesses of the accident.
