Arrest Made in Hit-And-Run Accident that Killed Laura McDermott

Witnesses allegedly saw the driver of the car that hit and killed Laura McDermott on Sunday.

Denver police have arrested a man in connection with a hit-and-run accident that killed a Simsbury native early Sunday morning.

According to the Denver Post, police arrested 25-year-old Dennis Esquibel who witnesses allegedly saw driving his mother's car, a 1991 Toyota Corolla matching the description of a car police believe was involved in a hit-and-run accident that killed Laura McDermott.

McDermott was a 1998 graduate of Simsbury High School who has been living in Denver, Colo.

According to an interview on KDVR.com with Laura's father, Gerry McDermott, she was about to get engaged to her boyfriend.

McDermott, 32, was crossing the street when a speeding car struck her and kept going. McDermott was taken to the Denver Health Medical Center where she was pronounced deceased, police said.
