Attempted Child Abduction Reported In Simsbury

Police seeking Latino male driving in a green or gray Jeep Wrangler.

The Simsbury Police Department is reporting an attempted child abduction.

On Feb. 10, the Simsbury Police Department responded to the area of Washburn Drive for a reported attempted abduction. Two 12-year-old girls were out walking when a late model Jeep Grand Cherokee (tan or gray) drove by them.

This vehicle drove up the road and turned around, according to police. The vehicle approached the females, stopped and the operator yelled out the window for the females to get into the vehicle, police said in a release.

While searching for the vehicle, police warned officials at the Squadron Line Elementary School that a suspicious vehicle was in the area at around 3:10 p.m. As a precaution, police asked the school to delay the dismissal of students who normally walk home.

Students remained in their classrooms until 3:25 p.m. when schools officials called parents and guardians and asked them to pick-up their children from school or gave the school permission to walk them home, according to an e-blast from the school

The Simsbury Police Department is asking residents that may have seen a vehicle that matches this description to call Det. Sgt. Tom Sheehan at 860-658-3140.
