Bears Decide to Attend School

The police were on the hunt for the most furry of suspects.

Early Monday afternoon, a mother bear and cubs were seen in the woods between and the intermediate playground. All students and staff returned to the building from recess and physical education classes as a precaution. In the meantime, the cubs climbed a tree outside the grade 3 and 6 wing.

Simsbury Police Animal Control Officer Mark Rudewicz was called and he and other officers were in the area all afternoon. At 2:15 p.m., the bears left the school grounds, heading across Squadron Line Road toward the Hoskins/Firetown area.

The school proceeded with its usual dismissal procedure. Simsbury Police will be patrolling the area in the event the bears return to the area.
