Man Dies in Accident on Route 67 in Oxford

The accident occurred at Hawley Avenue and Route 67 on Monday morning.

A 56-year-old Waterbury man died in a two-vehicle crash in Oxford Monday morning.

Gerald Bourgoin, of 1149 Hamilton Ave., was driving a minivan when he pulled out of Hawley Road onto Route 67 and ended up in the path of an oncoming tractor trailer near the Southford Cemetery. He died as a result of injuries sustained in the accident, Oxford Resident Trooper Sgt. Dan Semosky said.

Semosky said the Oxford Fire Department extricated Bourgoin. Bourgoin's passenger, Sheila Hernandez, was also hospitalized for non-life-threatening injuries. The driver of the tractor trailer was not injured.

A portion of Route 67 was closed Monday following the crash but has since reopened.

This is a very sad story but you are absolutely right... You have to wonder why someone would find it necassary to jump out onto a main road were most cars are traveling at least 50mph or better from a stop off a side street but it happens almost daily, not sure which stretch of road is worse 67 or 34

For those who are MISINFORMED... my father was having heart failure while driving. He was not a bad driver, not one accident in my 24 years. Please keep comments to yourself unless you know facts. I love you Dad. And if the driver of the truck is reading this I hope you are okay.

It was a dump truck, not a tractor trailer. A very big dump truck.

Cops said it was a tractor trailer that had a dump attached to the bed. I asked that specifically because someone else said it was a dump truck, too. MistyEve: So sorry for the loss of your father.
