Fatal Simsbury Crash: 'It Seemed To Go On Forever'

Sandor Bali and his wife Karen were sound asleep when two men in their early 20's crashed on the street behind their home.

"At first it was like part of my dream," Bali said. "It was the longest crash I've ever heard. This was crash, crash, crash, crash and then all you heard was the radio."

Police said 22-year-old Douglas Hesketh, of Simsbury, was the driver of the vehicle and Michael D. Nathan, also of Simsbury, was the passenger.

Simsbury Police reported that Hesketh received life-threatening injuries and later died at Saint Francis Hospital. The passenger survived the crash and is being treated for non-life threatening injuries.

The crash occurred shortly before 1 a.m. on Owens Brook Boulevard, right behind Bali's home on Horseshoe Circle.

"My wife woke me up and said 'call 911,'" Bali said. Another neighbor had called police moments before and officers were already on their way.

Bali, who has 5 children of his own, said an accident like this is "deeply tragic" and affects anyone with kids.
