Fire at Old Stone Crossing Home Contained to Garage

Tuesday night firefighters prevented a fire in an attached garage at 28 Old Stone Crossing from spreading to other parts of the home.

"Fortunately it was contained to the garage," Simsbury Volunteer Fire Company Chief James A. Baldis said late Tuesday night.

Volunteer firefighters responded to the scene at approximately 9 p.m. Tuesday after the residents called to report a fire in the garage.

There was heavy smoke when they arrived, Baldis said. The fire was "knocked down" fairly quickly but firefighters spent time making sure it had not spread, airing out the home and cleaning up at the scene.

Two vehicles and other garage contents were heavily damaged. No injuries were reported.

In addition to Simsbury, Avon Volunteer Firefighters helped at the scene and units from Avon and Bloomfield provided backup fire protection at town stations.

At 10:30 p.m. the fire marshal was investigating and a cause had not yet been determined, Baldis said.

Power was restored to the home and the residents were able to stay there, Baldis added.
