Larceny Is the Top Crime in Simsbury

Items stolen from cars, buildings are a top larceny in Simsbury.

The vast majority of crimes committed in Simsbury are larcenies, with burglaries coming in a distant second.

According to the most recent crime statistics available from the state, there were 189 crimes committed in Simsbury in 2011. Of those, there were 156 larcenies committed in Simsbury.

The crime statistics come from the "Annual Report of the Uniform Crime Reporting Program," which is published by the Crimes Analysis Unit of Connecticut's Department of Emergency Services and Public Protection.

In 2011, Simsbury police cleared 13 of its 156 larceny cases.. "Crimes cleared" refers to the number of crimes that either resulted in an arrest, or "some element beyond police control" precluded the arrest of the offender, (such as the death of the offender) according to the description contained in the crime report.

By far the greatest losses in Simsbury came from 12 larcenies of items from buildings, amounting to $153,704. Items stolen from motor vehicles resulted in the second highest losses in Simsbury at a total of $20,254. There were 53 larcenies involving items taken from motor vehicles.
