Loose Dog Spotted in West Simsbury on Saturday

Submitted release

On Dec. 2, 2013 the Simsbury Police Department informed the public about an aggressive dog that escaped from a kennel on Rescue Lane in Bloomfield.  The dog is a very large, black and tan Rottweiler with a long tail.  It was reported to be aggressive to humans and animals.

This dog was seen several times in West Simsbury on Saturday, Dec. 7, 2013.  The dog did not display any aggressive signs and had several non-aggressive, but distant interactions with people and other dogs.  Animal Control Officer Mark Rudewicz had a non-aggressive distant interaction with the dog on Saturday while attempting to apprehend it. The dog ran from people and other dogs and was last seen in the area of Tollgate Lane in West Simsbury around 3:45 p.m. on Saturday Dec. 7, 2013.

The Simsbury Police Department is working closely with surrounding police departments to apprehend the dog.  Please call your local police department if you see the dog and continue to use general caution.

Let's help get this dog out of the cold. Dog is a dog picked up in Hartford, held at the Htfd pound which is in Bloomfield and now running loose through the valley. This dog must be terrified, cold and hungry. Use caution - call in sightings. This dog deserves to be humanely caught. Sounds like he has NOT shown any aggression towards those who encountered him. Still do not try to catch him. Call the local police

We saw this dog on Old Farms Road in Simsbury yesterday. He was running in the middle of the road and looked scared. I didn't know that he was missing or I would have called to police. He ran onto someones lawn when we got close to him and we assumed he lived there. Poor thing, it's so cold out. Please, if anyone spots him, call the police.

This dog was spotted in my yard at Firetown Rd in Simsbury at 10:45am. It was there also on Saturday around 4:00pm. I called it in today to the Simsbury PD. The dog looked terrified, cold and hungry as previously posted. Tried calling out to it but it ran away. It did not show any aggression, just looked frightened.

Dog is still out there. Keep calling in sightings. He needs to be in out of this bitter cold.

Good news. He is safe. Found his way to my porch this morning. He's no dummy! I am a trainer and have 3 dogs of my own. Fed him and kept him warm. ACO brought tranquilizers which I fed in a hot dog. He's at the Vet and will be fine.
