Memorial Weekend Arrests

Police activity during the holiday weekend.

The following is a summary of the State Police motor vehicle Memorial Day weekend enforcement. The operation started on Friday, May 27 and continued until Monday, May 30.

There were 260 accidents, 18 with injury and four with fatalities. There were 70 arrests for driving under the influence. A total of 978 tickets for not wearing a seat belt were issued, and 2,013 speeding tickets.

The Memorial Day weekend enforcement operation utilized additional troopers who manned sobriety checkpoints, targeted DWI and aggressive driving and patrol across the State of Connecticut.

Motorists are reminded as summer continues, if they see a suspected drunk driver call 911 as this is a true emergency. Help the State Police keep the highways and roadways of Connecticut safe.

Locally, the Simsbury Police Department issued seven speeding tickets, and three for not wearing a seat belt this holiday weekend. Ten other tickets for motor vehicle violations besides seat belts and speeding were also issued. There was one arrest for driving under the influence and four accidents with property damage, but no injuries.
