He starts with the department July 5.

Michael Long, chairman of the police commission, said there are dozens of applicants for every opening — "Simsbury's a popular place for applicants" — but Webster stood out from the rest.

Long said Webster retired from Newington and found he missed the work. He said Webster will be a great fit for the town as his focus is to bring crime prevention and informational programs to the community.

“He brings a real benefit to us,” said Long.

Police Chief Peter N. Ingvertsen's focus is “not just enforcing the law, we’re making a better community,” said Long.

And Webster “fits in perfectly.”
