Police: Avon Man Had 3,000 Child Pornography Images

Police arrested Kevin Brownell, 65, of Avon, on Friday, Jan. 17, 2014 on a child pornography charge.

Avon police arrested an Avon resident on child pornography charges Friday.

Kevin Brownell, 65, of 28 Lakeview Blvd., Avon, was charged with possession of child pornography at 7 a.m. on Jan. 17. 

Connecticut State Police informed Avon police about "several cyber tips" from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC). 

The organization reported to State Police that one of Brownell's email accounts was "possibly in possession of child pornography. Detectives discovered over 3,000 images of child pornography in his possession after executing a search and seizure warrant of his home and "electronic media." 

Police took him to Hartford Superior Court on Friday and a judge set his non-surety bond at $85,000.

According to a LinkedIn profile associated with Avon resident Kevin Brownell, he previously worked for multiple news outlets, including WFSB (Channel 3) and WVIT-TV in West Hartford, as well as radio stations WDRC AM/FM in Bloomfield, WATR AM in Waterbury, WPOP AM in Newington and WNAQ AM in Naugatuck. 

The profile also indicates he went to school in Simsbury and at one time had some involvement in local theatre groups.

Brownell has also volunteered at The Hole in a Wall Theater in New Britain in multiple roles including as a member of the Board of Directors., according to his profile. 

According to WFSB he also took pictures of (clothed) children at various locations, including a Canton park.
