School Officials, Police Caution Parents About Pornographic Facebook Virus

If clicked on, this virus will share a pornographic video of a child with anyone in your 'Friend' network.

Simsbury school officials and police are on the lookout for a Facebook virus that is currently circulating in the Farmington school student population that spreads a pornographic video involving a young child.

Most Facebook users have clicked on links shared by those they are connected to on the social media network. And every once in a while the link you click on is actually a virus that shares itself with anyone in your Facebook network. This is the situation Farmington school officials are dealing within their students' social media sphere.

According to an email sent to parents by Farmington Superintendent Kathleen C. Greider on March 23, "The Farmington Police have learned that a virus in the form of a disturbing pornographic video involving a young child is attacking Facebook and has been received by some FHS students on their personal Facebook accounts."

When Simsbury Superintendent Matt Curtis became aware of the virus he immediately contacted the Simsbury Police Department.

Simsbury Police and school officials sent an email notification to parents shortly after learning about the virus notifying them of the graphic video cirulating in Farmington.

"If your child has a Facebook account, please tell your son or daughter to refrain from clicking on any shared videos.  If the shared video can be deleted, please delete the shared video immediately," the notice said.

The notice sent to Farmington parents said the video "is quite graphic and it will be very disturbing to students."

Curtis has not received any reports of the virus within the Simsbury community but said he hopes to make people aware of it so Simsbury residents aren't subjected to it's content.
