Simsbury Attorney Files Lawsuit Against Simsbury Police

A Simsbury attorney has filed a lawsuit against the Simsbury Police Department, according to The Hartford Courant.

James Oliver claims in the lawsuit he filed in Hartford Superior Court Tuesday that Detective Scott Sagan "knowingly submitted a false arrest affidavit" in 2013 when Sagan arrested Oliver and charged him with third-degree larceny.

According to the article, the suit names the Town of Simsbury and Sagan. Oliver says he was falsely charged with stealing from a pellet company that he represented legally in a lawsuit brought by the state.

The lawsuit alleges that Sagan knowingly left out key facts from the arrest warrant. The lawsuit also claims that Oliver's reputation has been permanently damaged by the arrest.

Oliver is seeking more than $15,000 in damages. The Statewide Grievance Committee is pursuing a case against Oliver that is currently pending in Hartford Superior Court.
