Simsbury Firefighters Respond to Farmington Woods Condo Fire in Avon

The fire on Heritage Drive heavily damaged three condo units.

Upwards of 50 firefighters from Avon, Farmington, Simsbury and Canton responded to a 4:30 a.m. condo fire on Heritage Drive in Avon. 

Eight occupants of the condominium building were displaced and have places to stay. Three of the five condo units were heavily damaged on the roofs and the interiors, including units 36, 37 and 38. 

The fire took about an hour and a half to contain, according to Assistant Chief Bruce Appell. No one was injured, he said.

After 8 a.m., Avon firefighters were still on scene checking for hot spots in the structure, ventilating the building and spraying water from inside the unit through the roofs 

The Avon Fire Marshal's Office is investigating the cause of the fire and officials from the Connecticut Fire Marshal's Office also were on scene as of 8:30 a.m., as were Avon police officers.
