A Simsbury High School graduate died Sunday after she was struck by a car while crossing a street in Denver, Colo.

Laura McDermott, 32, a Simsbury native, died early Sunday morning in a hit-and-run accident as she was crossing a street in Denver where she was living at the time.

McDermott was a 1998 graduate of Simsbury High School, according to school officials.

At approximately 1 a.m. on Sunday, September 23, McDermott was walking across S. Broadway Avenue at the intersection of E. Cedar Avenue in Denver when she was struck by a vehicle that was traveling southbound on S Broadway, according to Denver Police.

Police said the driver of the vehicle fled the scene of the accident without stopping to provide aid or contact police.

"The suspect vehicle was described as a beige or gray 4 door sedan, possibly a Toyota, missing a front passenger-side turn signal and significant damage to the front passenger-side," a Denver Police crime alert said.

McDermott was taken to the Denver Health Medical Center where she was pronounced deceased, police said.

Detectives with the Denver Police Traffic Investigations Unit are searching for any witnesses to this collision and/or witnesses that can assist in identifying the suspect vehicle and/or the suspect driver at the time of this collision.

McDermott was walking with her boyfriend at the time of the accident, according to CBS 4 in Denver.

The article says it provides information about "various ways" the community can helpRead More teachers. However, it provides information only about the Staples discount program. The link takes you to a Staples website, not to a list of ways communities are helping. In addition, statistics given are national, not relating to Simsbury, or even Connecticut. This seems like a canned article designed to promote Staples. Was it written and submitted by that retailer?
