Simsbury Man Arrested After Car Caught Fire

Police allegedly found man drunk next to flaming car.

A local man was arrested after he allegedly crashed his car, causing it to catch fire Sunday, according to the Waterbury Republican-American

Ronald Vanderjagt, 19, reportedly crashed his car into a wire guard rail and another car on Granville Road in Hartland, causing his car to catch fire and the other car to suffer heavy rear-end damage, police said. 

Just before 2 a.m. State Police got a report that a car had fled the scene of an accident in the area of routes 20 and 179.

Police found Vanderjagt standing near his car, intoxicated but uninjured, the report said. He was charged with driving under the influence, evading responsibility, failure to have insurance and failure to drive right.

He was released on a $2,500 surety bond and scheduled to appear in Bantam Superior Court on July 29.
