Simsbury PD Offering Summer Junior Police Academy for Local Youths

The Simsbury Police Department is accepting applications for this summer's Junior Police Academy.

The academy will be held Monday, Aug. 4 through Friday, Aug. 8, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. It is limited to 24 participants and free to Simsbury residents. The non-resident fee is $125 per child.

The junior police academy offers local youths  the opportunity to experience hands-on methods and techniques in the profession of law enforcement. Respect, self-discipline, integrity, equality, education, and physical fitness will be stressed. The youths also will gain an understanding of community responsibility, problem solving, and the role of the public servant.

Attendees should dress appropriately for the weather with clothing that should be comfortable for “hands on” activities and physical fitness. Children will also be required to bring a bag lunch Monday through Thursday. There will be a picnic and graduation on Friday at noon which parents and siblings of the cadets are invited to attend.

Please indicate on the enrollment application, which can be downloaded here, how many people will be attending the picnic. For information, call SRO Todd Kushman at 860-658-3171.
