Simsbury Police to Conduct DUI Checkpoint

Police will conduct checkpoint on Saturday

In an effort to discourage drunk driving and other safety violations, local police departments will be conducting sobriety checkpoints.

The Simsbury Police Department will be conducting a D.U.I. Sobriety checkpoint on Saturday, March 31, 2012, according to a statement.

The sobriety checkpoint will focus on drivers who are operating motor vehicles under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs.

This initiative is a collaborative effort among police departments in the towns of Avon, Bloomfield, Canton, Farmington, Granby, Simsbury, Suffield, Windsor and Windsor Locks. It is funded by a Federal Highway Safety grant through the Connecticut Department of Transportation Division of Highway Safety.

The checkpoint will be held near the intersection of Hopmeadow Street and Owens Brook Boulevard in Simsbury. The checkpoint will operate between 6:00 P.M. on Saturday through 2:00 A.M on Sunday April 1, 2012.

Officers will be enforcing State DUI laws as well as other motor vehicle laws including seatbelt and child safety seat statutes.
