Simsbury Police To Host Citizens' Police Academy

Simsbury residents can join the police department in effort to enhance awareness about law enforcement.

The Simsbury Police Department will be hosting its’ thirteenth annual Citizens’ Police Academy starting in February and finishing in April. Classes will be held evenings from 7:00pm – 9:00pm.  Classes will be held on Thursday evenings in the Simsbury Police Department. Chief Peter N. Ingvertsen wishes to invite Simsbury residents and business owners, who are twenty-one (21) years of age or older, to apply. The class size will be restricted to fifteen (15) individuals.

The Citizens’ Police Academy is designed to enhance awareness and allow citizens to participate with their police officers.  The Department will obtain feedback and use the ideas gathered during these sessions to make the department more responsive to the community’s needs.

This is your opportunity to interact with your department and share ideas with the officers who serve your community.

Some of the subjects that will be discussed during the ten (10) week Academy are: Arrest Procedures, Accident Investigations, Use of Force, Firearms, Emergency Services Teams, Drug Enforcement Investigations, Crime Scene Investigations and Motor Vehicle Laws.

Those interested may obtain applications from the Simsbury Police Department; 933 Hopmeadow Street, Simsbury, CT. Applications may also be submitted online at www.simsbury-ct.gov by going to the Community Services/Citizens’ Police Academy portion of the web site. The deadline is January 25, 2012.  Please submit applications to Community Services Officer John Mimnaugh.
