According to the Journal Inquirer, citing Berg’s arrest warrant, a man matching Berg’s description approached the night clerk at the Day’s Inn on Ella Grasso Turnpike in Windsor Locks and asked for all the money in the register.

He then lifted his shirt to reveal a knife, the JI reported. The man reportedly left with the money - $197 – and disappeared.

Police reportedly found Berg in the Seymour Village complex in East Granby passed out from a prescription drug overdose.

He also reportedly confessed to robbing the Simsbury convenience store and said he didn’t want to live any longer because he was wanted by police, according to the Hartford Courant.

Berg’s family said he suffered a brain injury more than 15 years ago, the JI reported.
