Firefighters Christopher Loftus and Brian Everest, both at Firetown station, of the Simsbury Volunteer Fire Company, have been certified Firefighter I by the State of Connecticut.  Both joined the fire company as cadets. Loftus joined in July, 2009 and Everest joined in March, 2010.

The 160-hour course covers fire suppression, breathing apparatus, search and rescue, ladders, ropes, hydrant hook-up, and salvage and overhaul.  The class prepares students to become on-line firefighters, trained in all phases of fire suppression.
