Woman Accused in Murder-For-Hire Plot Due in Court in December

A former Simsbury resident who pleaded not guilty to plotting to have her husband killed is due in court next month.

Tiffany Khalily Stevens, who now lives in Bloomfield, was arrested by Simsbury Police on July 13 and charged with inciting injury to persons or property.

According to an arrest warrant affadavit on file at the Superior Court in Enfield, Tiffany paid John McDaid $5,000 to kill her husband, Eric Stevens of Simsbury, during a bitter divorce.

The couple filed for divorce in 2009 and are now involved in a custody struggle for their 7-year-old daughter. Tiffany currently has custody of their daughter and also maintains control of $50 million in holdings set aside for the custodial parent, according to the warrant.

John McDaid, the man Stevens hired to kill her husband, told Eric Stevens about the arrangement, according to police. He then agreed to record a conversation between him and Tiffany Stevens during their next encounter.

Simsbury Police were provided with a voice recording made using a laptop computer in which Stevens can be heard talking about drugs and having her ex-husband killed, according to the warrant.

Tiffany Stevens was released on a $1 million bond following her arrest on July 13. Stevens appeared before Judge Joan Alexander at Superior Court in Hartford on Tuesday and, through her lawyer, pleaded not guilty to the charge that she paid $5,000 for the murder of Eric Stevens.

Hope Seeley, an attorney with Santos & Seeley, P.C. in Hartford, is representing Stevens against the felony charges facing her. Seeley has not responded to inquiries about the case.

Stevens is now due to appear at Hartford Judicial District Court on Dec. 17, 2012. Stevens faces one count of Attempt to Committ Murder, a class B Felony, and one count of Inciting Injuries to a Person/Property, a class C Felony.
