Simsbury voters are hitting the polls today to decide on the proposed 2012-13 Town Budget, but turnout has been lower than town officials would have hoped.
Approximately 600 votes, including 22 absentee ballots, were cast at Henry James Memorial School as of 1:45 p.m., according to Assistant Registrar of Voters Peter Stempien.
Those 600 votes account for approximately 5 percent of the town's registered voters.

Stempien said the rainy weather could account for the low turnout and added that this year's proposed budget might not be as controversial as past budgets have been.
"If it's a big issue people will come and vote," Stempien said.
