Cheryl Cook Announces Bid for Simsbury Board of Selectmen

Republican attorney hopes to get party's nomination for her first race.

Simsbury Republican Cheryl Cook announced Monday that she would seek her party’s nomination for the Board of Selectmen.

Cook, an attorney, currently serves as a commissioner of the Simsbury Housing Authority and as a member of the State of Connecticut Human Rights Committee. 

Selectman Nancy Haase has endorsed Cook in a press release, stating, “I have enjoyed working side-by-side with Cheri in so many capacities over the years.  She is a dedicated and respected volunteer and will make an excellent Selectman. Cheri has so much to offer our community, and I am looking forward to the opportunity to serve with her on the Board.”

Previously, Cook served as president of the Henry James PTO, president of the Squadron Line PTO and chaired several committees at Henry James and Simsbury High School. She also served on the district’s Core Vision and Beliefs Steering Committee.

She has also served as a Religious Education Teacher at St. Mary’s Church, board member of the Simsbury Newcomers Club, and a member of the Fragile X Society of Connecticut. The Cook family volunteers for the Fidelco Guide Dog Foundation as Volunteer Puppy Raisers and Cheryl is a member of the Fidelco Walk and Family Fun Day Committee.

“My experience as a volunteer in many different organizations has given me a broad prospective of issues facing our town and I am looking forward to having the opportunity to work with all of our Selectmen to serve Simsbury’s families and businesses,” Cook said in the release.

Cook lives with her husband of 25 years, Brad Cook. They have three children: Derek, 22, who lives in Canton; Bridget, 19, a junior at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor; and Terence, 14, an incoming freshman at Simsbury High School. Cheryl is an attorney who received a B.A. in Government from The University of Notre Dame and earned her Juris Doctor from Quinnipiac University. 

Candidates for Board of Selectman will be chosen at the Simsbury Republican nominating caucus at Eno Hall on Tuesday, July 23.
