“I am honored that the Simsbury republicans have given me their trust and support. I look forward to working hard in this campaign to meet as many residents as I can, and to listen to their concerns and ideas. This election is about the people of Simsbury- I am taking my campaign directly to them.”

Folk, a long-time Simsbury resident, has been the Executive Director of the Simsbury Chamber of Commerce for 20 years, experience she says will help guide her policies in Hartford.

“I want to be a voice for small business in Hartford,” Folk said.  ““We need to create jobs in Connecticut and the way to do that is to encourage growth and stability for our small businesses. Until we do, it will be impossible to achieve significant and lasting economic recovery.

“Charity understands that families and small business form the backbone of towns like Simsbury, and that they are struggling for survival.  I am thrilled that she wants to help and represent us in the Legislature," Simsbury Selectman Moira Wertheimer said.

In addition to helping businesses, Folk said she chose to run for office because the budget practices used by the General Assembly have put Connecticut in an unenviable position.

“It’s simple math,” said Folk. “Years of overspending, bloated government and budget gimmicks have created enduring budget deficits. Every time its the Connecticut taxpayer and small business owner that are forced to bail out government. There needs to be a cultural change in Hartford. It’s time to stop spending.”

Folk pointed to the budget process over the last two years as evidence of the problem in Hartford. Despite a $1.8 billion tax increase last year the Governor and Majority Democrats increased spending by a billion dollars. This year the budget is once again in deficit by $284 million.

“Simsbury is fortunate that someone of Charity’s caliber and experience stepped forward to help our Town have a voice in CT government. Her track record of fairness and common sense will serve Simsbury residents well," Simsbury Republican Town Chairman, Sean Askham said.

“Now that I am a qualified candidate and have satisfied all my fundraising requirements for public campaign financing I can concentrate on bringing my message to the Simsbury voters," Folk said.  “I’m looking forward to my campaign."

The 16th Assembly District is comprised entirely by the Town of Simsbury.
