Gov. Malloy Makes A Stop In Simsbury

The Governor spoke at a United Technologies event.

Gov. Dannel P. Malloy was guest speaker at United Technologies employee education ceremony held at The Riverview in Simsbury last night.  The event was held to celebrate the more than 250 UTC scholar-employees who have earned college degrees under the company's generous Employee Scholar Program.

Malloy's short speech comes during a time when education is something he is talking about a lot.

"It's been a tough 13 months," said Malloy and went on to say that Connecticut is in the process of identifying its' strengths and weaknesses.  "We need to address our weaknesses and build on our strengths," he said, mentioning fiscal discipline, which has "long been absent."

Comparing the state itself to UTC, Malloy praised the company for changing gears when they had to in the past in order to maintain their success.  "We are making sure we go back to being the best producers of undergraduate and graduate degree [holders]."

Malloy congratulated all the UTC employees who had obtained degrees and made a formal proclamation on their behalf.

Malloy's office also announced on Tuesday that he will be taking his education reform message to school auditoriums and town halls across the state in an education reform tour.

“There has never been a time when education and jobs are more closely aligned,” Governor Malloy said in the press release.  “I am determined to fix what’s broken in our public schools, so that every district is giving students the tools they need to succeed in the 21st Century Economy."
