Hampton headed the opposition to a proposed water diversion from the Farmington River to the University of Connecticut and is leading the effort to craft a state wide water plan.

“Protecting the supply of water is an important component of good environmental stewardship and I am pleased to say I have been working hard to establish a comprehensive state plan that will address infrastructure, energy, public health, environment, land use, agriculture, economic development/business/manufacturing, municipalities, schools/universities, fishing/recreation and emergency planning.”

Environmental issues this year included, among others, clean water, protecting open space, energy reform, toxins in products, pesticides on school grounds, coastal protection, forest management and the first ever mattress recycling program.
