Mike Paine Announces Run for Simsbury Board of Selectmen

Mike Paine has announced his intention to run for the Board of Selectmen this fall, according to a release submitted to Simsbury Patch. 

“His experience and leadership, both professionally and as a long-time volunteer, will be great assets to this important Board and a great addition to our Republican Team,” stated Paul Henault a long time supporter and friend.

Co-Owner of Paine’s Inc, Mike is president of a successful third generation, locally owned family business that recently celebrated its 83rd anniversary.

“I took over the trash hauling and recycling business from my Dad and the next generation is now beginning to oversee the daily operations of our company – the time is right,” Mike Paine said. “I have spent years giving back to the community in a number of ways, playing a broader leadership role on the Board of Selectmen is the next logical step.”

Paine currently serves as the Chairman of the Simsbury Planning Commission and has been a member since 2009. A board member of the Simsbury Chamber of Commerce since 1992, Mike served as its President from 1998 to 2000 and Director Emeritus since 2005. He was a recipient of the Simsbury Chamber Business Leader of the Year Award.

In 1996, he joined the Board of Directors of Simsbury Community Television (SCTV) and served as President from 2001 to 2004. He has also been a member of the Hartford Area Cable Television Advisory Council (HACTAC) since 2000. A trustee with the McLean Foundation beginning in 2012, Mike has been a member of the Foundation since 2000.  He has been a member of the National Solid Waste Management Association since the early 1980’s, past president of National Board of Governors and is currently State chapter Chairman.

An avid golfer, fisherman, and family man, Mike and his wife Jean are third generation residents of Simsbury, raising their two children Mike and Sarah Jean. They come from a family that believes it is important to give back to the community and have supported numerous community activities and groups, the release states. 

Mike’s dad, Don Paine, started Flags for Simsbury. Mike Paine has continued this tradition, raising funds and working with the Town of Simsbury to display and maintain the flags along Hopmeadow Street from Memorial Day until Labor Day each year. The Paine’s Inc “Pink Barrel” campaign has helped to raise funds to battle cancer.  

The Paine family is a perennial sponsor of the Talcott Mountain Music Festival at the Performing Art Center at Simsbury Meadows.  Mike also supports Farmington River Clean Up, Relay for Life, Linda’s Litter Lugging Day now Johnnie’s Junk Jamboree, Simsbury Social Services, Simsbury Free Bike and more.
