Public Forum on Plans for Simsbury Community/Senior Center to be held June 10

The Board of Selectmen has scheduled a public forum on plans to construct a new Senior/Community Center for the Town of Simsbury.

All Simsbury residents, and particularly its senior citizens, are invited to attend the forum which is scheduled for Monday, June 10, 2013 at 6 p.m. in the Main Meeting Room of Simsbury Town Hall.

According to Town Engineer Richard Sawitzke, a Senior/Community Center Study was completed for the Public Building Committee in November of 2012 by Quisenberry Arcari Architects, assisted by a subcommittee of Senior Center users and staff.  Several public informational meetings were also held over the course of the study.

Through an analysis of demographic trends, present and projected program needs, and input from focus groups, the Architects developed a concept plan which offers several site alternatives based on a number of factors including program use, accessibility and financial feasibility.

Sites currently under consideration include the existing Senior Center at Eno Hall, a new structure at the corner of Bushy Hill and Stratton Roads and the Performing Arts Center on Iron Horse Boulevard.

“We need public participation and input in order to make the necessary decisions regarding this project,” says Mr. Sawitzke.  “It’s important that we hear from the residents on this – it’s their Centerand we need to know what best meets current and future users’ needs.”

A copy of the study can be found on the Town’s website by going to the Senior Center page and clicking on Senior/CommunityCenter Building Study, or by control-clicking on the following link: http://www.simsbury-ct.gov/public-building-committee/files/seniorcommunity-center-building-study.
