Simsbury Announces Reduced Active Duty Military Rates for Golf Season

Reduced rate for active duty military personnel will be available to residents and non-residents.

Submitted by the Town of Simsbury

At a meeting Monday evening, the Simsbury Board of Selectmen approved reduced rates at the Simsbury Farms Golf Course for active duty military service members.  For the upcoming golf season, active duty military personnel who present a valid Military ID will be eligible for individual green fees of $10 for a 9-hole round or $20 for an 18-hole round.

“The Town of Simsbury wanted to acknowledge the hard work and sacrifice of the men and women who serve our country,” said First Selectman Mary Glassman. “With many active duty military personnel beginning to come home after years serving abroad, we felt that offering this special rate is a great way to show our appreciation to these heroes.”

The reduced rate for active duty military personnel will be available to both Simsbury residents and non-residents.  Weather permitting, the 2013 golf season at Simsbury Farms is anticipated to begin around April 1st.

What a bunch of do gooders voting to make themselves feel good. Active military are usually deployed somewhere around the US or globe, which means they're not sitting around Simsbury waiting for a discounted golf round. Plus, how many weeks a year do they actually come home and even if they were here, would they actually use the facility? If you really wanted to help the men and women who serve, extend the discount to those who have served and are not active duty and make it free to those who are on military disabilities. Those are the people that really need the discounts. How many discounted rounds do you think active military will actually play?
