Simsbury Center Code Public Hearing March 21

Residents can have their say about the proposed regulation starting at 7 p.m. in Eno Memorial Hall.

The Simsbury Town Center Code, produced in conjunction with the town and several local and state organizations, was drafted by the Texas-based Code Studio after much input from the town and its residents.

The 98-page draft regulation dated February 18, 2011, is posted on the town website for review. The code is located at the bottom of the opening page of the town website and on the planning and land use page as well.

The draft regulation goes into great detail about every aspect of what is and is not allowed in the center area from allowable uses to a building's lighting, parking, landscaping, height and placement.

The zoning commission's public hearing on the proposed code will be held tonight — March 21 — at 7 p.m. in Eno Memorial Hall. The commission is required to hold a public hearing before considering adoption.

The purpose of the Simsbury Center Code, as stated in the draft document, is to achieve the intent and vision set forth in the Simsbury Center Charrette Report dated June 2010 by amending the Simsbury Zoning Regulations for the Simsbury Center Zone. Specifically, the Simsbury Center Code provides the means to guide implementation of the citizen-endorsed vision for property within the Simsbury Center Zone.
