Simsbury Earns Awards for Excellence in Risk Management

By Martha Hogan

The Connecticut Interlocal Risk Management Agency (CIRMA) recently recognized Simsbury’s efforts to improve safety, lower losses, and save taxpayer dollars. Both the Town of Simsbury and the Simsbury Public Schools are being honored as a 2011 CIRMA Risk Management Achievement Award Recipient.

The town was selected in the category of “Sustained Risk Management Efforts” for the continuing commitment of executive leadership and all department heads to sustain a strong culture of risk management throughout the organization, resulting in a 50 percent reduction in worker’s compensation loss frequency and a corresponding reduction of 75 percent in the amount of losses paid over the past two policy years.

Simsbury Public Schools was selected in the category of “Substantial Impact on Loss Cost Factors” for maintaining a workers’ compensation loss ratio well below 40 percent and averaging less than 10 reported liability-auto-property claims per year for the past five years, all achieved through the activities of the safety committee, diligent property maintenance, and active commitment to risk management training and education.
