The revised Simsbury Town Charter was approved by voters on Tuesday by a wide margin.
Official results of the 2012 election in Simsbury were released Wednesday afternoon by the Simsbury Registrar of Voters. The charter passed with 5,717 votes in favor and 2,327 votes against.
"I'm very pleased that the voters of Simsbury overwhelmingly chose to approve the changes made by the Charter Revision Commission and approved for the ballot by the Board of Selectman," commission member Darren Cunningham said.
The commission was a group of 8 unaffiliated republican and democratic voters who spent over a year working on revising the charter, according to Cunningham.
"Yesterday's voting result confirms the work of the Commission," Cunningham said. "I'd like to thank all the members for their hard work and input and especially congratulate Chairman Rob Heagney on a job well done. The Town of Simsbury continues to be well served by its citizen-volunteers."
